In 2004, Poplar Heights Farm and the Jones-Seelinger-Johannes Foundation embarked on a project to chronicle the history of the early stone cutters of the region for the Early American Industries Association.
What started out as a relatively modest and straightforward research study turned into an addicting hunt for information on a subject little touched in journals of the day. As word of the project spread, interested parties from throughout the region offered information and asked to be included.
The result is one of the most comprehensive studies of a specific industry ever conducted in Western Missouri.
